He has reminded me of the story in Acts, chapter 27, where Paul set sail for Rome and instead ended up on an unknown island after experiencing quite a bit of contrary winds that almost cost them their lives. But God! God had other plans then Paul's planned itinerary and He often does for us as well. Although Paul was warned of impending disaster approaching, he was also assured that no lives would be lost and that God would see him through. So God's promise to Paul was a strong anchor for him to hang onto when the winds got intense. And when the winds blew them onto an island they never had on their map, God poured out signs and wonders and a whole village came to know the wonderful news of the saving grace and power of Jesus, because they ended up in a place they never planned for.
And God is stirring my heart to say that it is often the same for us. We think we are going in one direction and all of a sudden, a contrary wind arises that causes us to shake in our boots...and yet, God's peace and assurance is with us in the midst of it. And the wind takes us places that we never imagined were possible. And God pours out His spirit in amazing ways.
So perhaps we are not to become so fearful of the wind, but begin to hang on in greater trust when the winds begin to blow us "off course" and onto God's course......afterall, He is the One who is the author of the wind.
Something to ponder the next time the wind begins to blow!

Loving the One who is our strength and shelter in the midst of the peaceful and stormy times,
Lynn Heatley
www.prayercommandpost.org

Prayer Command Post Newsletter – January 2010

Note from Lynn
It is my hope to begin communicating again the wondrous works of God going on in our midst. It has been a long season (4+ years) of returning back to work as an RN, this time in the field of Hospice. And yet, God has been in it all the time, teaching me much as I have spent time with the dying and those caring for them. Along with my own journey of caring for my dad in his last days. Much learned and much to share about in this life with God. So….I am jumping back into trying to communicate what I see God doing in the overall scheme of things. I used to do this through the quarterly publication called “Prayer Connection Newsletter” where I communicated much in the realm of prayer and prayer events. Now, God has grown me further into being much more missional minded and I desire to share the journey of God’s Sightings, Insights and Happenings in all spheres of life. So, there it is. Would love to hear your thoughts along the way. Thanks for joining me on the journey. – Lynn

Insights
Thank you to all those who recently joined us at our recent Prayer Command Post Open House. What a great time to see one another and get caught up….and of course, pray!
Terri led us in a wonderful time of focused conversation* where we were able to identify, from a diverse group of people present, what we are seeing the Lord doing and hearing Him say. Listed are the highlights:
1- Advance Now- The time is Now…to see what the Lord has been saying fulfilled
2- Kingdom Shift – We have not been this way before, Change!, new prototypes, reality of the Kingdom of God being lived out
3- Integration of Realms – God has removed the boxes of how we separate the secular and the sacred….it is God in every aspect of our life. Heaven touching earth in every part of our day. Look for God in all the places you thought God was not present! Expect God to open doors in every place you step.
4- Leadership out of Intimacy- Creativity, plans and wisdom rolling out of our daily walk with God.
5- Authentic Community- Being a friend of God and thus, a friend with others. Truly caring for one another.
6- Bridge Building through Collaboration – Expanding from partnership to collaboration, where there is an equal giving and receiving and seeing the Lord do so much more because of the unity and camaraderie present.

*If you are interested in the detail notes of this conversation, just email me and I will be happy to send them to you.

Ponderings
I have been on a journey with the Lord that has intensified in the past 6 months. The Lord began to show me of how much I lived in “segregated” realms. I kept “ministry” in one box, my job as a nurse in another box, family life in another box, etc. But 6 months ago, the Lord lifted all the divisions and now life is all mixed together. And it is messy and wonderful all at the same time. And God shows up when I least expect Him and I am surprised over and over. I think the new term for this is “living missionally”. For me, it has been a new way of living and full of surprises and I no longer see things from a sacred vs. secular viewpoint. It is all God and He is in it all.

Along that same line, the ministry of the Prayer Command Post used to focus on training intercessors and connecting others in prayer. Now, prayer is no longer the end goal, but the means to the greater journey with God. I don’t even use the term intercessor anymore as I found it to be rather divisive and many children of God felt that they could not really know the Lord because they were not an “intercessor”. And this thinking and teaching grieved the heart of God….and hindered a lot in the body from simply walking and talking with the One for who they were created to be in relationship with. So…God has a way of simplifying us as we mature….and it is needful. I now talk about prayer as being linked to DEPENDENCY….which essentially means that we grow in humility and recognize that we can do nothing apart from Him, which leads me to seek His way as we walk together in all areas of life.

Happenings

There are 2 gatherings I would like to highlight in the next few weeks…they both happen to be on the same day (different times):

SAT, JAN 30 (8am-12noon) – “Gathering of Women” in Riverside. Focuses on women in leadership across the Inland Empire gathering together for worship, story, prayer and mentoring one another in the challenges that are particular to women. Led by Lynn and friends. Email me if you are interested as space is limited – prayercntn@aol.com

SAT, JAN 30 (6pm-9pm) – “Inland Empire House Churches Unite” in Alta Loma. A network has formed in the Inland Empire of leaders from various house churches that gather together quarterly to learn from one another. This meeting is a larger gathering of house churches. Lynn has remained in her job and has become an Educator in the realm of Hospice Nursing and End of Life Care. She works part time and now has more time to be able to explore other ministry opportunities and trips. On the home front, we continue to host our House Church that meets monthly. Our son graduated in June from Cal State Fullerton and our daughter still continues her schooling at Fullerton Junior College. Both of our children have moved back home with us and God’s grace is present. This past year had some new stresses and we find ourselves overwhelmed with gratitude for God’s mercy & provision. It is our prayer that you may find the faithfulness and peace of God to be your strength and joy in this season and in the coming New Year as we celebrate the One who gave His life for us so that we could have life and hope.

Merry Christmas & Have a Blessed New Year!

Love From The Heatley Family

Nov-Dec 2009

Wow, it has been a busy few months! It has been a full year!

Bill continues to oversee his company and enjoys his fishing adventures to Canada, Lake Arrowhead and beyond.

Lynn had many changes this past year. She stepped down from one full time job in Hospice and changed companies in April to work for another Hospice agency in a part time Liaison role (similar to a discharge planner role). With a new freedom in her schedule, she was able to do a bit more traveling, including a Fall trip to Africa that was part of the School of Reconciliation. In Africa, she traveled with a team to Northern Uganda and experienced the life and culture of the beauty and hardships of the land. The trip was enriching and life changing and the faces of those that we met have remained with me. On the home front, we continue to host our House Church that meets monthly.

Doug continues to live in a nearby apartment and continues with his schooling in business at Cal State Fullerton. He has recently gotten back into ice hockey, which he (and us) are thoroughly enjoying.

Val continues at Fullerton Junior College and just got a new job at McCormick & Schmick Restaurant.

Regarding our extended families: Our sad news is that my father had a decline in health and peacefully passed on September 2nd. It was an honor to have him in our lives and he is missed. The rest of our extended families are doing well.

This past year had its usual amount of stresses, but we continue to be thankful for God’s goodness and for our health and family and friends. Working in Hospice continues to help clarify to me what is really important in life and I am grateful for the many ways that the families that I have worked with have gifted me with perspective along with much gratitude. It is our prayer that you may find the faithfulness and peace of God to be your strength and joy in this season and in the coming New Year.

Blessings and joy,

Lynn

Post Africa Trip Report from Lynn 2008

September 27, 2008

Dearest Friends~

It has been 2 weeks now since I have returned from our trip from Uganda and I am still praying and trying to process all that we experienced. It was a very full time and we saw God at work in many places.

Our team of 11 flew into Entebbe (southern Uganda) and headed north on the following day. Uganda is very green this time of year and we began to see a very different landscape then what is typical in Southern California. After a 6 hour drive on bumpy roads, we arrived in Gulu and immediately participated in a lively prayer meeting. From then on, our schedule was very full until the time we boarded the plane to return home.

In the first part of our week, we were part of a team that hosted the East Africa International School of Reconciliation. We met with leaders from Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Congo and Sudan. We heard amazing stories of how God was using a few to bring the message of forgiveness, peace and restoration to lands that had decades and even centuries worth of tribal fighting. The wounds are deep in Africa and need the continued healing and restoration of God. In our meetings, it was wonderful to see prayer arise and nations blessing other nations in the midst of a great history of conflict. When the School was over, we sensed God's pleasure of all that had happened.

After the school, my time was spent in meeting and praying with leaders and participating in the many outreaches through Favor of God Ministries (www.favorofgod.org). Favor of God is doing a wonderful work in Northern Uganda and are to be commended for their tenacity and passion in serving God and the people of Uganda and beyond. I had the opportunity to preach in a prison, share and pray for those at an IDP Camp, pray with ministry leaders, pray for leaders within the medical community and so much more! Other members of our team were busy building a playground and ministering to the children at the House of Hope that is home to 33 orphans. What a joy to see these children worship God.

Ten days into my trip, I found out that my father had died. His health had been deteriorating before I left and I sensed that he might pass while I was gone. The Lord gave grace to my family in handling the details that were needed. I received the news the day we headed out for a safari and it was gracious of the Lord to surround me with beauty and friends on this day of his passing. I was able to rejoice that my dad was now in the presence of God and His perfect love.

Some of the ongoing challenges that I experienced were....
- Seeing the land in trauma. Northern Uganda has just come through 20 years of war and the impact is still very present. Most of the families I talked to were headed by a single parent of a family of 8-10 and as we talked more with them, we found out that part of the children were from extended families where the parents had been killed and were now being cared for by other family. Most of the people in the town of Gulu have experienced much loss from the war. It is hard to describe the look of hopelessness that is deep within many that I encountered.

- Continuing to see how fragile peace is in most of Africa. The wounds of the nations go very deep and we were very aware that at any point of time, an uprising could happen and bloodshed could be repeated. Since we have returned, we have heard news from one of the pastors who joined us of an uprising occurring now in Congo. His life and that of his community is at risk. We also have heard this week of how 90 children have been abducted from their schools in Congo to be forced into becoming child soldiers.

We all have returned with new faces and lands before us that we are holding up in prayer. The need for the message of reconciliation remains great for Africa and we felt privileged to hear how God is doing this in the land. I was very touched to see how individuals were able to extend forgiveness from such great atrocities committed against them. And to see a joy radiating from them. It left me speechless time and time again. In spite of the hardships, God is doing a wonderful work.

Well.....there are so many more things I could share but will stop here. There were many "too holy to talk about" moments throughout our time and God gave us much grace for a very intense trip.

Thank you so much for all the ways you prayed for me and the team. We felt your prayers carrying us every day and I am forever grateful for your partnership with me in prayer and support. Please continue to pray for the team as we transition back into jobs and family life while still carrying Africa in our hearts.

May the Lord continue to bring His healing and peace to the nations of our world.

Living for His glory and smile,
Lynn Heatley
http://www.prayercommandpost.org/

Disaster Bulletin Board

Dear Friends

Information will be posted on our Prayer Command Post blog site to aid in distributing information in the event of disasters within our region. I continued in my job as a Hospice nurse and had the privilege to minister to families experiencing crisis with end of life issues. Just this past week, I was led to step down from this job after 22 months. The Lord has called me out of this very intense season and is now having me rest and ready myself for new adventures. I am forever grateful for the deep things that the Lord imparted to me in my job. My love for God and His eternal purposes have been strengthened in the past 22 months as I watched others face eternity.

At the same time of a very busy work schedule, the ministry of the Prayer Command Post was honored to serve in a variety of ways: 1) Hosting House Church twice a month 2) Participation and hosting of retreats 3) Partnering with other ministries 4) Reconciliation events & trips 5) Participating in a Gathering of Int’l Leadership at the United Nations 6) Mentoring and praying with leaders (ongoing).

Some of our Upcoming Plans 2008 include continuing with our House Church, Hosting of Trainings and Retreats, working alongside other leaders and ministries and traveling to other cities and nations.

Our Focus Areas for 2008 & Beyond:

1. Worship. Establishing intimacy with God as our first priority; all other ministry overflowing from this place.

2. Nations. The Lord is birthing partnerships between us and others serving in other nations.

3. Generations. Our role of spiritual parenting and encouraging younger ones in the ways & voice of God.

4. Spheres. Co-laboring with the Lord in activating His people in all the spheres of influence (govt, business, etc).

5. Divine Networking for the Kingdom in the Inland Empire and beyond.

Thank you for your amazing friendship, partnership and financial support in this journey of living for our King and His Kingdom in our daily lives. It is a joy to walk with you and behold the beauty of our God together, in Who He is and What He has done. God is amazing and my heart is full of gratitude.

May you know the Lord’s love and empowering grace in new ways in this new year.

Living for the glory of God,
Lynn

United Nations - New York Trip

United Nations/New York Trip Report – September 2007

Dearest Friends~

Thank you for your prayers for me….for what turned out to be one of the most life changing ministry trips that I have ever been on. Following is a very brief sketch of all that went on. Thank you for your prayers.

We were invited to attend meetings in New York where we prayed at the United Nations and also for the city of New York. My travel partners/friends & comrades in ministry for this trip were Joyce Smith and Sue Rebar.

Saturday, September 8
This was a long day of travel…but the Lord was faithful in giving us mercy and helping us to make our connections, with peace, all day long. We were able to pray for the leadership team of the IPC and for the meetings enroute.

Sunday, September 9
We arrived at the New York School of Urban Ministry and had an initial welcoming and introduction time. John had all those that were representing different nations stand up. There were over 47 nations represented (ranging from a few to a larger group of 10+). There were also around 15+ children intercessors who had come to be a part of the UN Initiative. A multitude of people groups, age and gender were present and it was beautiful to behold the body of Christ, together in one room, praising God together. Afterwards, we were given further instruction regarding protocol at the UN. After this meeting, we all boarded buses and went to Manhattan to take a City Cruise Tour via boat. We boarded the boat and cruised around Manhattan where we were led by City Pastors and Prayer Leaders on specific prayer points for the many “boroughs” of New York. It was an encouraging time to see the nations come together to pray and bless the greater city of New York. We returned to our hotel after a full day and began to prepare ourselves for the next day at the United Nations.

Monday, September 10
After security procedures, we were settled in our seats at the United Nations by 9 a.m. and the procession of flags and banners began as part of the welcome ceremony. It was quite awesome to behold. For the rest of the day, we met and heard from various ambassadors and also prayed for different countries that were having major conflict. We also began praying for the 8 Millennium Goals of the UN. This was followed by a tour of the UN where we gained further understanding of the various levels of authority and involvement of the UN in various nations. We ended our day back at our hotel, where we prayed about various issues in our room and the Lord gave me additional clarity about returning home and shifting back into some ministry areas. This time turned out to be very pivotal for the rest of my trip.

Tuesday, September 11
We took buses to the UN again for our second day of meetings and were very prayerful as we entered into the city, knowing it was a major day of remembrance from 9-11, especially for Manhattan…and we prayed for God’s mercy and healing over the city as we drove over the bridge to enter Manhattan.
The Lord directed us to sit in a different place on this day and as a result, we met 2 city prayer leaders that we went with at lunchtime to pray over the city. I also met a prayer leader from Malaysia who I discovered had been using my articles posted on my website to train some of the prayer networks in her country, which was very encouraging to know. After the UN service, we attended a service at a church near Ground Zero and prayed for the area. From there, we returned back to the School and had dinner a wonderful leader from the UK. He shared amazing stories with us of how God is healing great divisions between people groups. After dinner, we began our debrief time from the past 3 days. It was a wonderful time to hear of all that God did. We ended the night with praying for one another's countries, especially the USA.

Wednesday, September 12
I traveled home and was reflecting on the importance of our trip. It was a privilege to attend such gatherings with others who had come from so many countries. God did an awesome work. And now, one week later, I still find myself in a place of quiet gratitude and tears as I reflect on this trip. God has given me grace to go back to my job.

Right now, I am praying about several trips for next year. I have been invited to go to Thailand, Israel and Uganda next year. I am in prayer about all of these trips and would appreciate your prayers as well. Thank you for your support and encouragement. It is an honor to serve the Lord in these assignments.

Love and grace,
Lynn
http://www.prayercommandpost.org/

Update from Lynn - June 2007

Loved & Appreciated Friends~

It has been awhile since I have communicated and I wanted to drop a note to give you a few updates.

Life continues to be very busy. Most of the time, it feels like my lips are barely above water...but God's grace is sufficient and, as usual, change is in the air.

On a family note....
Bill celebrated turning 50 a few months back which was filled with celebrations. It was a memorable time. My dad is still living with us and his physical health has stabilized a bit more but his memory is decreasing. Val is living on her own and has a new job at a coffee place, is going to school and is growing in responsibility. Doug only has a year left of college and is doing well. Life stays busy with all the family stuff going on.

On my job....
I am still working as a Case Manager in Hospice...which can be draining. BUT, praise God, a change is coming soon as I transition into a Nurse Educator role. I am thrilled for the change and am hoping to reclaim some time, emotional strength, etc. My new role will be training new nurses and I hope I can pass on some skills that I have acquired this past year. I will say that this job has taught me much....learning to live one day at a time and to cherish the moments and people we love has been imprinted on my heart in deeper ways.

On a ministry note....
We still host our house church gatherings twice a month. Regarding the Prayer Command Post, we have been in a season of prayer as we sense the Lord is doing a new thing. One of the areas that seems to be emerging is our call to focus on Leaders. I am praying about doing weekend Leadership Intensives with small groups of people (15 or less). I am also getting stirred by God with new relationships that are developing with missionaries in Africa. I still serve on several ministry boards.

Presently, I am waiting for my job to switch over so I can have more emotional and physical energy to pursue some other areas. We are hoping to begin to implement some of the vision beginning this Fall. I will send out updates as more clarity comes.

Insights and ponderings....
One of the words that the Lord has impressed upon me recently is that it is "time to break camp". I am still praying about the meaning of this, but I sense that one of the meanings is that the "cloud of God" is moving and I need to move with Him into new territories. We, as a ministry, have been camped for awhile in one area and I think the Lord has some new areas for us to explore, activate and steward.

SO....that is enough for now. Thank you if you have read this far...please pray as the Lord would lead you. We are dependent on God's word/direction as our daily bread and long to be in the center of His perfect will.

Thank you for your friendship and partnership with me over the years. I am forever grateful for our journey in building the Kingdom of God together as we each do our assigned part.

Living for His smile and for His glory,
Lynn

email: prayercntn@aol.com

web: www.prayercommandpost.org

Ordination

Friends

Much has happened in the last few months. Personally, the year was full of unusual twists as the Lord thrust me back into the marketplace (as a Hospice RN) and allowed me the privilege to minister to families experiencing crisis with end of life issues. It was a good and God transition for the Lord to put me back into nursing to understand how the body of Christ can minister the reality of the love of God in very practical ways. At the same time of my new job, my father moved in with us, which began the journey of caregiving for an elderly parent, and thus identifying with the stresses that go with being full time caregivers to loved ones. So, this past year was full of surprises which caused me to discover the Lord’s grace, wisdom and strength in new ways.
At the same time, the ministry of the Prayer Command Post still managed to serve in a variety of ways: 1) Hosting House Church twice a month 2) Participation and hosting of retreats 3) Partnering with other ministries 4) Reconciliation events & trips 5) City-reaching events and 6) Mentoring and praying with leaders (ongoing). Here is a sample of what 2006 looked like:

Prayer Command Post – Year in Review 2006

2006 Ministry Trips:
· Served on the committee and attended/taught at the National City Impact Roundtable (Cedar Rapids, Iowa - April)
· Azusa Street Centennial (Los Angeles – April)
· Women’s Retreat (Carlsbad - September)
· Prayer Command Post hosted a Day Retreat at Descanso Gardens (Pasadena - September)
· UK Reconciliation School Trip (Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland - October)
· House Church Conference (San Diego -December)
· Hosted several mini retreats (Lake Arrowhead)

Ongoing Ministry
· House Church meetings twice a month in our home
· Day meetings/prayer times with various individuals throughout the year
· Serving on the boards of:
~ Prayer Command Post
~ Reignbridge / International School of Reconciliation Studies
~ Global Waymakers

Professional
· Completed 3 month College Refresher Course for Nursing (January-March)
· Began full time employment as a Hospice Case Manager (March)

Personal
· My father moved in with us due to health issues (March) & we had to clear out & sell his house (September)
· Our youngest graduated from high school and my husband and I celebrated 26 years of marriage!

Upcoming Plans 2007
1. Continue with House Church (meeting twice a month).
2. Prayer Command Post hosting various Retreats/Events (will be posted on our “Upcoming Event’s” page on our website).
3. Continue with Hospice Employment (new position beginning in April as Trainer).
4. Continue serving alongside various ministries & mentoring/praying with leaders.
5. Travel Assignments of intercession, teaching and transformation.

Thank you for your amazing friendship & partnership in this journey of living out the Kingdom of God in our daily lives. It is a joy to walk with you and to be encouragers of one another in the many new steps of faith that the Lord calls us to. Thank you, also, for your encouragement as I was just formally ordained on February 10th as a Minister of the Gospel (it was such a meaningful day).

May the Lord bless you and your family abundantly with His provision and grace.
Living for the smile of God,
Lynn Heatley
Prayer Command Post
www.prayercommandpost.org

Blessings to you in this New Year!

Happy New Year!

It is a good time to reflect and to be thankful for all the ways that God's grace has been revealed in this past year of 2006. Here are just a few:

~ Lots of transitions for myself and family....new job, my elderly father moving in with us and our taking on the role of caregivers, children becoming adults and entering new territories of decision making....and God has been fully present in the midst of it all.

~ Learning to watch and see the Lord show up in lowly "stable-like" situations as well as in the glorious "aha" moments....and grateful that He is Lord of all of our daily happenings.

~ Experiencing a new depth of compassion as I work with the terminally ill and the daily challenges that each of these families experience. Below is a very brief summary of some of the things that the Lord did (there is so much that happened, it would take a book to write it all).

NORTH IRELAND - (Oct 14-19)
We landed into Dublin somewhat tired from a long flight and bus ride up to Northern Ireland. I came down with a major cold and was drugged for 4 days to prevent coughing over everyone. Our school was from Mon-Wed where we were honored to hear awesome stories regarding reconciliation between generations, Catholic-Protestant and Jewish-Gentile. It was humbling to be with others who are really walking out reconciliation in a land full of strife. We had awesome prayer times and our team bonded well in these first 5 days together. We saw the Lord birth and issue a major call for the worshipping youth to come forth and sing/dance over the land. We were honored to be at a retreat center that is living out community life daily .

ENGLAND - (Oct 19-22)
We flew into southern England where we received wonderful hospitality with a European prayer leader (the team stayed in various homes). Our host gave us a car tour of the land where we learned more about the region. We met some wonderful people and had some intense prophetic encounters and prayer times with those in the land. Our day meeting was based on generations and we met some wonderful youth that love God wholeheartedly. England was a brief stay but the Lord seemed to cram a lot into every part of our days.

WALES (Oct 22-24)
Our trip to Wales was the most meaningful to me. We were only there a brief time but the Lord privileged us to meet with the most humble leaders that are walking out depths of reconciliation that I have rarely seen. We heard stories that connected me to the land in a unique way (plus I have strong roots in Wales, which made it even more meaningful). We heard the story of the land and experienced ancient songs and dances that are being revived by the Lord for this present day. We received a prayer of blessing from the leaders and prayed for them in return. The prayer time reminded me of the word in Malachi 4 where the Fathers were blessing the children and the children were blessing the Fathers. The land is beautiful and we got to hear stories that melted my heart. We prayed and sang over the land and the sea (it is a coastal town). I hope the Lord allows me to return some day and see the continuing work that He is doing.

SCOTLAND(Oct 24-28)
We arrived in Edinburgh at night and stayed at a wonderful B & B. Edinburgh is a very large and ancient city with a lot of destiny and destruction going on. We were warmly received by others and had wonderful prayer times and prophetic prayers. We joined a group who were praying for the parliament and visited the parliament later that day. We toured the castle and gleaned some history of the land. During the last night, the Lord blessed us to go deeper and pray with other leaders for their city as the spiritual climate has various depths of darkness that needed prayer.

Overall, the Lord graced us with divine appointments and great grace and unity in the team and with others. The Lord gave us understanding that we were to enter the land as great great grandchildren that were coming to honor our forefathers and that we were to bless the people and the land by hearing their story and mostly staying quiet (very opposite for what Americans are known for). HONOR and LISTENING/PRAYING were our main assignments.....and we saw the Lord do amazing things as we simply obeyed His leading.

We had a lot of times of debriefing on our flight home. Plese continue to pray for the Lord to protect the team and their families as we all try to readjust to family and work schedules. I return to work tomorrow and will need grace to get back into a full time work mode.

The trip was amazing every day. It felt like we were gone for 2 months as the Lord compacted our days with so many spiritual things that happened. Most of it seems to holy to talk about. We all felt the effect of those who were praying for us....thank you so much for your faithful prayers.

It is good to be home....thank you for your partnership in prayer.
Lynn

UK Trip October 13-28, 2006

International School of Reconciliation Studies
website: www.gracebridge.org

After months of praying and preparing, we’re just about to leave! On October 13, we are privileged to be part of a team of 14 reconcilers who are flying to North Ireland. You are acquainted with the “Troubles” that have wrecked havoc on this beautiful country. Someone once described Belfast as the “hate capital of Europe.”

While there, we will conduct we will conduct a residency week, dealing with Catholic/Protestant, Jewish/Gentile and Generational reconciliation issues. These gatherings instead of lectures, and stiff classes, are relaxed, memorable times of telling story, listening, laughing, praying (and some times weeping), and humbling our way deeper into God’s heart. We’ll be meeting with Catholics, Jews, Protestants, and others.

After Ireland, we will travel to Portsdown, England (near Portsmith), and Lee on Solent where we will hold a one day gathering on generations. From there we go to Wales and meet reconcilers and praying servants who have spent their lives promoting peace.

From Wales, we will go on to Edinburgh, Scotland, where we will have mtgs. with the Edinburgh Prayer Watch, the Scottish Parliamentary Prayer group, and we will hold a day gathering of leaders on leadership at the Salvation Army Hall in downtown Edinburgh.

When you hear of us going to Great Britain you might think “Those lucky dogs! They’ll be up to their eyeballs in beauty, and they’ll be glorified tourists.” Great Britain does beauty amazingly, but you can see by the itinerary this is a working trip. We will be staying in fairly sparse hostels. We are asking God to give us His heart, to give us life transforming words and to touch all that we encounter with His power.

We’d love you to enlist as part of our prayer team. Would you email us back if you’d be willing to put a picture of the team (following page), on your refrigerator and pray for us at least once a day?
Fawn
Fawn@reignbridge.com

Our Itinerary

October 13
Leave from LAX, Tokyo, and Kansas City

October 14
Arrive in Dublin

October 16-18
Residency school
from 9 am to 9 p.m.
at Christian Renewal Centre, Rostrevor,
North Ireland

October 19
Fly to Bournmouth England for mtgs. in the Portsmouth area

October 22
Fly to Wales Meet with reconcilers and praying servants.

October 24
Fly to Edinburgh
Mtgs. with Edinburgh Prayerwatch, Scottish Parlianmentary Prayer Group and we hold a day gathering for leaders.

October 28
We fly home. Most of us naturally have certain predispositions for relating to God, which is our predominant spiritual temperament/sacred pathway.

Here is a very brief synopsis of The Nine Sacred Pathways, taken from the book "SACRED PATHWAYS" by Gary Thomas

• Naturalists—prefer to leave any building, however beautiful or austere, to pray to God in His various places of creation/nature. They are recharged in nature.

• Sensates—want to be lost in the awe, beauty, and splendor of God. When these Christians worship, they want to be filled with sights, sounds, and smells that overwhelm them.

• Traditionalists—fed by what are often termed the historic dimensions of faith; rituals, symbols, sacraments, and sacrifice. These Christians tend to have a disciplined life of faith. They have a need for ritual and structure.

• Ascetics—want nothing more than to be left alone in prayer. Let there be nothing to distract them—no pictures, no loud music, and leave them alone to pray in silence and simplicity.

• Activists—serve a God of justice, and their favorite Scripture is often the account of Jesus cleansing the temple. They define worship as standing against evil and calling sinners to repentance.

• Caregivers—serve God by serving others. They often claim to see Christ in the poor and needy, and their faith is built up by interacting with other people.

• Enthusiasts—excitement and mystery in worship is the spiritual lifeblood of enthusiasts. They are inspired by joyful celebration. These Christians are cheerleaders for God and the Christian life.

• Contemplatives—refer to God as their lover, and images of a loving Father and Bridegroom predominate their view of God. The focus is not necessarily on serving God, doing his will, accomplishing great things in his name, or even obeying God. Rather, these Christians seek to love God with purest, deepest, and brightest love imaginable.

• Intellectuals—they love God with their minds. They like to study the Bible and other books. They might think; if I am not learning anything new about God, then my relationship feels stagnant.

Latest Update - July 2006

LIFE-UPDATE FROM LYNN (July 2006)
Many changes have occurred in this year. As my journey goes, I have been involved in prayer ministry (both in a local church and also with the parachurch ministry of the Prayer Command Post for over 15 years. I have served with other prayer ministries, both nationally and locally. All of it has been very good and has been from God and has had much fruit. Last year, I began to sense the Lord shifting me towards becoming more active in my community. I have worked with many local city-reaching ministries, but my heart began longing to be active in some kind of practical, hands-on way towards reaching a city. Long story short (and after much prayer/counsel), I went back to school for a few months and renewed my Registered Nursing License and am now working full time as a HOSPICE Nurse in my own city that I have lived in for over 20 years. It represents ministry just as much as any previous commitment as I am now re-presenting Christ and providing compassionate care to patients and their families as they are in the crisis of facing terminal illness. I am seeing the Lord bring His sweet presence and am very aware of the sacredness of this calling.
It is good to be serving in my community and applying "City-reaching" principles in a very practical way. A dear friend summarized this season well when she prayed 2 Kings 7 over me. It is a story of a famine in the land and 4 lepers are starving and waiting to die...and they risked and went into a city and discovered an empty city that was full of food and plunder....and they realized that God was calling them not to horde it for themselves but to share it with the others from their city who were still starving.... "they said to one another, "We are not doing what is right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the king's household." (see II Kings 7:3-9 for the full story). I think this scripture sums up what the Lord is doing with me. Having been feasting with the Lord in seasons of prayer and prayer ministry for years, it is now time to go into the city and share what I have been so richly blessed with by the Lord. May the Lord show you your place of reaching out to those in your city too.

Day Retreats
Although I am working full time and serving my city in practical ways, we, as the ministry of the Prayer Command Post, will also continue to serve others in the area of equipping. We will be doing Day Retreats several times a year that will have a focus of Spiritual Formation & Deepening Our Relationship with God. The desire of our Day Retreats is to welcome the Lord to minister through worship, devotions, community and the beauty of His creation. Our next Day Retreat is scheduled for:

Date: Saturday, September 30, 2006 (9am-5pm)
Place: Descanso Gardens (Pasadena/La Canada area)
Please see our website: www.prayercommandpost.org for further info (look under "Upcoming Events")

I pray that you can join us at one of our retreats in the near future.

Please know that I have not exited out of ministry all together, I have just entered into some new and different types of ministry. The Lord is doing a lot for those who are serving Him through their jobs and I pray that those of you who are doing this will be greatly encouraged and know that God wants to use you mightily to re-present Him to those you work with and come in contact with everyday. Don't despise your job, God has placed you there for His purposes. Pray and ask the Lord to give you new eyes to see it as He does and to use you in new ways for His Kingdom. You will be amazed at how He answers this prayer!
Thank you for reading this and for tracking/befriending me over the years. I would love to hear how the Lord is using you in this season as well.
I am praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And I pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. -Colossians 1:9-12

Serving the Lord with you....for His glory and smile,
Lynn Heatley
Prayer Command Post

Report from the Field

Friends

Well, it has been a month now since I have been out and about, primarily in a prolonged orientation, for Hospice Nursing. I have met some wonderful staff and patients and their families along the way. I am on a major learning curve as I gear up my nursing and documenation skills on a daily basis. I come home rather tired from long days.

We are also having daily grace for being full time caregivers to my father. My family (especially husband) have really pitched in to help.

This new season has brought many changes and I covet your prayers for grace on a daily basis.

I will keep in touch on a random basis.

Blessings and grace,
Lynn

ps....the National City Reachers Conference in Cedar Rapids (Apr 3-5) went wonderfully well. My dad who is 83 and having some major health challenges, moved in with us on Sunday. We are not sure if this is short term (my sense is that it is long term). Nevertheless, I am assisting with his care presently and might need to look into bringing in some additional part time help to assist him....because of:

2. I start back to work full time, next week, on March 28th as a community Home Hospice Registered Nurse. I am returning back to my field of nursing after being out of it for 17 years (I just recently finished my refresher nursing course at college). In pastoral care, I have walked with many families in medical crisis over the past decade (including losing my mom to cancer over 20 years ago) and now it seems that the Lord is opening up doorways again to use me to bring His compassion and care to those in need through my RN skills. I see this as full time ministry just as much as anything else and look forward to divine opportunities of bringing the love of God to those in need. I know the job will be very challenging and would appreciate your prayers as I re-enter full time employment.

3. I am still attending and teaching at the upcoming city-reaching conference that will be happening in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on April 2-5. Please pray for safety and anointing for the trip. I have some particular things that the Lord is stirring in my Spirit to share at the conference. See: www.cityreaching.com for more info

4. The Prayer Command Post will still host a few day retreats this year....I am waiting for a settling of some of these other happenings before I actually schedule any of the retreats. Check our website occasionally as I will post events there (www.prayercommandpost.org). Our house church will also continue twice a month.

5. There is a possibility of a trip to Europe this Fall to assist with the Residency Portion of the School of Reconciliation (www.gracebridge.org).

SO.....as you can see, life is very full for me now and I have definitely entered into a new kind of season. I covet your prayers for the abundance of God's grace that I will need in this new season. Do stay in touch.

Grace to you in this new season!
Lynn

Returning to school (after 20 years)

Friends - It has been an interesting journey as I have returned to school the past few months in order to have my Nursing skills (RN) refreshed. I have not been a RN for 17 years now and the areas that seem to have changed the most is technology and the length of stay for those being hospitalized. Although I am old enough to be everyone's mother at the local community college that I have been attending, overall, it has been good to be back at school. May we all be life-long learners! I am almost done with this particular refresher course and will begin to see what doors open up as I re-enter the field of nursing. I will continuie with some ministry assignments as well through the Prayer Command Post and with other ministry partners....but I consider nursing to be frontline ministry as well....bringing the love of God to those in crisis...through acts of kindness, mercy and grace! Blessings!
